214 NOVA ISTRA Literary, Art and Cultural Journal Zeitschrift für Literatur, Kunst und Kultur Rivista di letteratura, arte e cultura Pula, Croatia / Kroatien / Croazia, No. 2/2019 Summary This issue first presents today’s most distinguished literary reviewer in Croatia, Zdravko Zima, due to a long interview in which many topics have been discussed with him, such as: literary and culture, current status of literature, literary review and culture in Croatia and in the world. Issues generally related to society and mar- ginally to politics are also included as it seems to be necessary. Without beating about the bush, again, Zima represents the generation of those well-read and well- educated, well-informed reviewers and essayists that can hardly be found anywhere right now, including the Croatian literary scene. In the section with contemporary literature contributions, there are new poetry and fiction pieces by authors belonging to different generations and showing diffe- rent poetics. In order to mark 85 th anniversary of his birth and 25 th anniversary of his death, the readership are provided with a few texts, essays and studies on the most impor- tant and surely most versatile Croatian writer in the second half of 20 th century, An- tun Šoljan, in which different aspects of his works are viewed. Exclusively, for the first time, the complete German to Croatian translation of a lecture by Karl Kraus has been published. The given public reading session, to be more precise, was held by this great Austrian and European writer in 1913, in Pula – the main Austro-Hungarian naval port then. Illustrations from that time and the translator’s introduction are added to the text itself. The native region-based section helps us remember late Professor Emeritus Ivan Zoričić, one of the leading contemporary linguists, i.e. an expert in accentology, in Croatia. Apart from his serious engagement in researching and teaching activities at the Faculty of Humanities in Pula, he made a great contribution to popularise lin- guistic issues and to enable linguistic (dealing with right spelling and speech) culture to reach a broader audience and the public who might have been interested. Finally, this issue contains reviews on the contemporary Croatian literature (no- vels, poetry, theory), two translated books (from Japanese and Latin American lite- ratures), as well as two articles on history and history of art.
