SUMMARY
At the very beginning of this double issue, let us remember Tatjana Arambašin and Ante Dabo, the two distinguished Croatian writers from Istria, who unfortunately passed away.
The Contemporary Literature section contains new prose writing and poems by Croatian authors belonging to different generations and poetics.
In 2008, 6th Pula Essay Days were focused on the authority. This topic was presented by essayists from various viewpoints: literary-critical, literary-historical, historical, political, also revealing post-modern considerations, etc. All the essays signed by the authors who took part in this international meeting are included here.
The range of discussions and studies widened at 14th Šoljan’s Days, as the presenters paid their attention not just to the writings by Antun Šoljan (1932-1993), one of the most important Croatian writers in the second half of 20th century, with European references as well, but also to the literary-scientific analyses of pieces by other writers, intriguing phenomena and schools in the contemporary literature. In 2008, in Rovinj, they discussed the work by Slobodan Novak (1924), the classic contemporary Croatian writer, whose opus is extremely important and multi-layered – from the viewpoints covering comparative literature, film, radio-drama, TV, also from other analytical-theoretical and experiential viewpoints. The younger and the older connoisseurs of the writer’s opus were included in this.
The New Translations section contains a couple of short stories by one of the most distinguished Chilean writers of the Croatian origin, Juan Mihovilovich Hernández (1951).
In the contributions to a better understanding of the homeland issues, one new book is presented here from the historical point of view, considering Istria under the Italian fascistic rule in the first half of the last century.
The Reviews section traditionally comprises reviews on new literary, historiographic and translation editions.
